the Government of the Colony decide to issue small notes of lower denomination than $5.00, no such bills or notes shall hereafter be issued for any other sun than the sun of $5.00 or some multiple of such sun, or other equivalent".

You will see from my predecessor's

2.

Despatch No. 68 of the 10th. June, 1875, to the Earl of

Carnarvon that the one-dollar note-issue of the Corporation was

limited to $226,000 and in his Despatch No. 77 of the 6th.

June, 1876, the Earl of Carnarvon decided that the Corporation's

request for permission to increase their one-dollar note-

-issue to $300,000 in all should be refused. The Corporation

has, however, the right to issue and re-issue one-dollar notes

to the value of $226,000 and the attached correspondence bet-

-ween the Colonial Secretary and Mr. N. J. Stabb shows that

the circulation of these notes is always up to the authorised

limit.
