the Government of the Colony decide to issue small notes of lower denomination than $5.00, no such bills or notes shall hereafter be issued for any other sun than the sun of $5.00 or some multiple of such sun, or other equivalent".

Despatch No. 68 of the 10th. June, 1875, to the Earl of
Carnarvon that the one-dollar note-issue of the Corporation was
limited to $226,000 and in his Despatch No. 77 of the 6th.
June, 1876, the Earl of Carnarvon decided that the Corporation's
request for permission to increase their one-dollar note-
-issue to $300,000 in all should be refused. The Corporation
has, however, the right to issue and re-issue one-dollar notes
to the value of $226,000 and the attached correspondence bet-
-ween the Colonial Secretary and Mr. N. J. Stabb shows that
the circulation of these notes is always up to the authorised
limit.
